Magento being an ecommerce platform running at a pace of a dragster, its highly difficult for its competitors to keep up with its features, updates, community base and no. of organizations using it.

Now the organizations using it also uses/need other subsystems for the tasks which Magento is not programmed/supposed to do. For example, to maintain accounting records organizations using Accounting Systems such as Quickbooks, using POS Systems such as Microsoft RMS, iVend, Lightspeed Retail for physical stores, using ERP such as SAP Business One, MS Dynamics NAV, Open ERP for order processing, accounting and for a full business management cycle, using Shipping Systems and Tax Management Systems such as Avalara or Exactor etc. For a smooth data flow and proper information management organizations are also using some Plugins/Connectors which connects these back office systems with the Magento eCommerce.

Magento product images duplicate issue with CSV product importer
Our client likes to leave images on media/import folder and when they import csv, if product image already existed, it was creating duplicate image.

So below is a quick workaround to fix this issue. Here we are just deleting previous images if we are going to re-import them again.

There could be a simpler solution but this worked for me.

Lets create new image attribute first at: magento admin > Catalog > Attributes > Manage Attributes > Add New Attribute

Set Attribute Properties as below:

Attribute Code *: hover_image
Scope: Store View
Catalog Input Type for Store Owner: Media Image
Apply To *: All Product Types
Manage Label ‘admin’: Hover image

Save this new attribute and go to manage attribute set at:

magento admin > Catalog > Attributes > Manage Attribute Sets.

Click on your attribute e.g. Defaults. Then drag ‘hover_image’ from Unassigned Attributes to group Images and Save attribute set.

Now edit your product and assign image to hover image that you want to display on list page on mouse over.
